Hello, loves my name is Shenique and I’m from Miami, Fl born and raised. I am a Natural Hair and Self Care blogger. My current goals right now are to start my very own business/brand and to continue to inspire others to be their best selves through my Instagram and YouTube content.
What does Self-love mean to you?
Self-love is choosing to accept my true being, that’s physically, mentally, and spiritually. Acknowledging my flaws for what they are and not what I want them to be and seeking help for areas or things in my life that need improvement. It’s not comparing myself to others because their self-love journey and life is different than mine. It’s an inner peace and an unexplainable glow that can only be achieved by me.
What was the hardest part of loving yourself?
The hardest part for me was not allowing people’s opinions of me distort the way I felt about myself. Especially opinions of those I valued like family and guys I really liked.
Have you ever felt like you couldn’t love yourself? If so, why? If not, have you ever felt fear to love yourself?
I did not have any fear to love myself. I looked forward to loving myself more because I soon grew to learn that I have so much power in my thoughts and feelings about myself. Once you realize that you are in control of your happiness everything changes and there’s nothing no one can do about it. It was then that my myself grew stronger!
What do you value about yourself?
I value my strength mentally because it takes mental strength to choose self-love every day. Despite society or people and their views of beauty I always find the beauty in me.
What do you do to make yourself feel better from self-doubts, self-sabotage, fears, comparison & etc.?
When I find myself being doubtful or negative, I always give myself pep talks. That’s right! I talk to myself. Sometimes I’ll even look myself in the mirror when I talk to myself and whatever it is, I am comparing or doubting, I stare at it and say out loud all of the beautiful things I see. It could be my hair, skin, or just something about my life in general. Reminding myself how dope and blessed I am helps to bring me back to reality. I may even look through my feed on Instagram just to remind myself of all of my accomplishments if I’m feeling like I’m not improving or if I’m just feeling stuck. I remind myself that my current situation is not my final destination!
Do you believe you can love yourself differently from loving others? Why or why not?
I love them the same. I show them love the same way I love myself by giving them positive thoughts and reminders of their achievements when their feeling low. They can either take it in and believe it or still choose to be sad about a situation or insecurity.
How do you show yourself love?
I show myself love when I invest in products for my hair and skin because pretty hair and skin makes me feel beautiful. I show myself love by making sure to stay hydrated and healthy so I can have the energy needed to take on the day to be my best self. I showed myself love when I seek help for my anxiety because I finally accepted that it was a part of me. I show myself love when I pray that my goals and dreams can come to fruition. Showing myself love involves anything that helps to better myself physically, mentally, and spiritually.
What do you believe about loving yourself?
I believe that loving myself is so most important and I’m so grateful for it because it allows me to love others for who they are and not what I want them to be. In doing so, others can spread that love onto others and self-love can become contagious.
What do you think of yourself?
I know that I am smart, beautiful, creative, strong, and that I can achieve anything I put my mind to. It’s one thing to say or write these things but it’s another to believe. I truly believe all of these things about myself.
Why do you love YOURSELF?
I love myself because despite all I’ve been through mentally I still chose to be positive and found self-love. I love myself for the strength to not give up on myself and for the heart to continue to love myself flaws and all. I love myself because the crown in self-love that I’ve worked so hard for does not comes off for anyone or anything. I am so DOPE!
