Hello, my name is Jasmin Marie, born and raised in West Philadelphia. I am a freelance graphic designer and social media coordinator. Servicing clients with services such as logo, business card, and flyer designs. I am on YouTube, as a lifestyle vlogger, video-graphing some of my life. I am a poet, writer like I’m just one hell of a woman. Oh, and I cannot forget to mention my brand Be Raw, which will commence as an podcast that will unapologetically and rawly sharing the voices of black creatives. My dreams are to travel the world and doing what I love. I want Be Raw to be global and to talk to creatives from all over the world. I would love to work with brands/business that I am aligned with. My goals for 2019 are to get a new car and to move into my apartment. I would like to get my passport and travel out the country. I would also like to be more active in the gym and get my body right so when I travel out the country I look good in my bathing suits!
What does Self-love means to you?
Self love means to me to love yourself first and foremost always, in all ways. No matter what people may say or think about you, your love matters. What you think of yourself matters. Self Love to me means you value your relationship with yourself and that value is worth more than you can imagine.
What was the hardest part of loving yourself?
The hardest part of loving myself was accepting myself for who I am. But not only that, trusting myself. I had a huge thing with trust and I would ask myself how could I do this thing or make this decision? Which would cause me to ask myself a lot how could I say I loved myself? Not only could I not trust myself but I also did not trust God. The hardest part of loving myself was trusting and being vulnerable. Allowing myself to be there for myself in every way and trusting God’s plan for me. I had to let go of fear.
Have you ever felt like you couldn’t love yourself. If so, why? If not, have you ever felt fear to love yourself?
I didn’t think that i couldn’t love myself however I did allow fear to let me believe I would never love myself. I allowed fear to control me and it is something I am working on daily. Daily okay? Loving yourself is a process. I was afraid of the process and shied away from it.
What do you value about yourself?
I value how passionate and determined I am. I am so determined to be my best self. Even when I thought I gave up on myself, I never really did because I still was determined to rise above the bullsh**. I am passionate about the woman I am and the woman I am becoming.
What do you do to make yourself feel better from self-doubts, self-sabotage, fears, comparison & etc. ?
What I do now is just remind myself to be grateful for all that I have. When these negative feelings arise I acknowledge them for what they are, figure out why I am feeling this way, and then let them go. I practice this every day. I’m also learning to be quiet when doing so. So meditation is very important to me. I may listen to music or dance. Sometimes I just need to write but I do what makes me happy.
Do you believe you can love yourself differently from loving others? Why or why not?
We are all a reflection of each other. If I love myself then I love others. Love will radiate from me. No matter what It is, it is that simple. So to me it isn’t a matter of loving different, I can love myself just as much as I love others. But, I come first always.
How do you show yourself love?
I show love to myself by writing a lot. I lost writing for awhile but, I have been writing again and it feels good. I love dancing in the mirror to some music, alone in my room. I show love to myself by lighting candles and meditating as well.
What do you believe about loving yourself?
I believe loving yourself is a choice. A choice you have to make and then prove to yourself. Your relationship with yourself is a valuable relationship so we have to be mindful what we feed ourselves. How we love ourselves. Being attentive to our feelings and acknowledging our emotions. Knowing that our emotions are tools and we decide how we react to what is going on around us and how it makes us feel. I really believe you have to choose to love yourself.
What do you think of yourself?
I know that I am a vibe. I am a good vibe. I am a talented, beautiful black woman. I know that I am ever evolving and growing. I know I am fragile but, I am strong at the same time. I am enough.
Why do you love YOURSELF?
I love myself because I deserve to love myself. I deserve to make myself my first choice. It really took me a long time, I feel like to get to this point. I am 25 and most would say this is the time to figure out the love for yourself but, I know I could have been figured it out, or acknowledged it and I chose not to. I chose to live in fear. I chose to live in negativity. So, I love myself for finally choosing me. I love myself so much and I will continue to love myself.
