Knock, Knock. Time Is Up

  • “When are you getting married?”
  • “When are you going to have children?”
  • “When are you going to move out of your parents’ house?”
  • “Have you ever been kissed before?”
  • “When are you going to own a home, and start a family?”
  • “When are you going to graduate from college?”
  • “Oh my gosh, you’re not in school. Did you drop out? Please, don’t tell me you’re going to be another statistic.”

Do you want to know a little secret? Do you really want to know my secret? By the age of 25, I’m going to marry my Prince Charming. YESSSS! You read that correctly, I’m marrying my Prince Charming by the age of 25 but, not just any old Prince Charming with a horse carriage and he’s swept me off my feet (ohhhh no, no, no, no, no). We’re like totally going to be #relationshipgoals or shall I say #Marriagegoals. Are you still laughing at me? Mark my words – I’m telling you my Prince Charming is going to be in my life from my Heavenly Father and I’m going to have a huge wedding. The biggest wedding of them all and you’re invited. After my wedding then comes a baby because I’m pretty sure women can have a baby by the age of 25, every person in America will graduate by the age of 22 + begin a career right after Graduation. Am I Right??? Lol, alright. You can take that look off your face, I don’t believe women are supposed to have a baby at age 25 or 26, not everyone will graduate at age 23, and not everyone will get married at age 25. Also, No I’m not getting married by the age of 25(I’ll be 26 in two days) nor am I thinking about my Prince Charming or planning a wedding & etc. (Thank God!).

Now, I’m not saying that I don’t want to be married or have kids but, it isn’t on my mind right now and I’m sure it’ll happen when it’s supposed to happen. I Graduated from college with an associate degree at the age of 24(took me 5 years to get a degree, which I’m super proud of because I worked my butt off for this degree) but, do you want to know another secret? Do you remember the time your 9th grade teacher would say “where do you see yourself in 10 years?” Honestly, I really didn’t know, I assume writing down the list of things I wanted to become and see myself in 10 years like becoming a Doctor, married at age 25 with two kids & traveling the world + writing a book while being retired but, becoming a doctor isn’t my thing (S/O to all my medical students).

10 years later. I’m not married & I don’t have kids, I have my associates degree, I’m a blogger, writer, a single black beautiful woman (who isn’t looking for a relationship) but, to live my life the way I intend to live my life with faith. However, it sounds a disappointment to others when you say, “I’m not married” then the question comes to mind of “well, do you have a boyfriend?” Or when you say, “I’m not in school, but I have a plan.” And you’ll get the look like wait, what? You’re not in school.
I never understood why at a certain age you needed to get married and if you weren’t married at a certain age then there’s something wrong with you(lol). let me get this straight, if you don’t graduate at age 22, if you don’t have a bachelor’s degree, if you don’t get married at age 25 & don’t have children by the age of between 25&26 then you’re failure and you’re not living life. Really??? Who came up with this rule? When we’re born, 1st enjoy your childhood then graduate from high school, after high school get a degree but, it must be something higher than an associate degree. Afterwards,  get married & have a baby but, not one or two AND wait!!!! All of this must be done in your twenties. We’re not programmed like robots … For some, twenties were the best for them and for others being in your twenties were a journey to know who you are.

Just as a general note, you should eliminate any thought that there is an expectation that you do anything by any age. You don’t have to be married with kids by age 25…  its OK to be 16 and never been kissed… there’s nothing wrong with you if you haven’t graduated from college by 22…. You’re not a failure because you don’t have your dream job at 30.. there are no rules to life. You don’t get special points for achieving certain things by a deadline. Just go at your own speed. It’s not a race.

There’s no RULE to life! Exactly. There’s no rule to your destiny. No rule to your journey. The path that God has for you is only for you but, it STARTS with YOU! It starts with you and ends with you. Who cares if jean-baptize, shay shay & them are already married with kids, having a career, graduated & etc. Congratulations to them (Btw, no way saying there’s something wrong with that.) I’m simply saying don’t get upset because it’s not you. Instead focus on yourself, do what you must do for yourself. Stop focusing on other people’s lives and start focusing more on what you’re going to do today will make your future self, be proud. Just because someone did it all in their twenties doesn’t mean you can’t do it all in your thirties or forties – there’s no age limit to life. Spread love and enjoy life. KEEP GOING!

Knock Knock. Time is up feeling sorry for yourself. Do you understand how beautiful your journey can be, if you just have faith and believe?
knock knock, my love. Whatever you’re doing right now in your life, be proud of it. Embrace it & enjoy it. Everything works in Gods favor at the right time.  And if you don’t want to get married but, want to be a career person then there’s nothing wrong with it. There’s nothing wrong with how you plan to live your life because it’s yours. God gave you a life to breath, to walk, to talk, to see, to enjoy your life. Use it the best way you can and live your best life.

Rushing the process will get you quicker to failure than success
